Ductless Mini-Split Services

Ductless Mini-Split Professionals

Your family deserves a home where the temperature is always comfortable. But what if traditional air conditioning isn’t possible in your house? Florida is home to numerous older buildings and residences that lack ductwork, so central air conditioning isn’t always a practical option. Other rooms may struggle to achieve proper air circulation, such as basements, offices, and classrooms.

Carrier Electric’s ductless mini-split system can be a powerful solution in these types of scenarios. This extremely versatile system provides both cooling and heating. The units can also be zone-controlled, so each room can be set to a different, optimal temperature.

At Armstrong Air & Electric, exceeding your expectations and non-stop improvement are our top priorities, and we have been earning the trust of our residential and commercial customers for over 30 years. Our 100% employee-owned, U.S. veteran-founded company can help determine if this solution is right for your home or business.

Our licensed and insured technicians can install, repair, and service all makes and models of equipment, including mini-splits. You can enjoy peace of mind with our money-back satisfaction guarantee on our installations, and we encourage you to ask about our warranties, rebates, financing options, and payment plans. We are also available 24/7 and offer same-day appointments for emergency mini-split repairs.

Advantages of Ductless Mini-Split Systems

Ductless mini-split systems offer numerous benefits for Florida property owners seeking efficient and flexible climate control. These systems are especially attractive because many provide zone control, allowing you to customize the temperature in individual areas of your home or commercial building. This capability alone can make ductless mini-splits a smart choice for energy savings and personalized comfort.

Here are some key potential advantages of installing a ductless mini-split system:

  • Superior energy efficiency. Ductless mini-splits eliminate the energy losses associated with leaky ducts, which can account for a significant portion of energy consumption in traditional central AC systems. By cooling or heating only the rooms you use, you can save energy and lower utility bills.
  • Personalized comfort with zone control. Each indoor unit operates independently, letting different family members or building occupants set their preferred temperature in their specific room or zone. This eliminates temperature disputes and maximizes comfort throughout the space. For example, you can keep a bedroom cooler for sleeping while maintaining a warmer temperature in a living area.
  • Simple, flexible installation. Installing a ductless system is relatively non-invasive. Our technicians only need a small hole in the wall to connect the outdoor compressor to the indoor unit via a conduit. This makes them ideal for homes without existing ductwork, such as older Florida homes, additions, or converted garages.
  • Improved indoor air quality. Each indoor unit has its own filtration system, which should effectively reduce dust, pollen, bacteria, and other particulates in the air of that specific zone.
  • Quieter operation. Since the noisier compressor unit is located outside, the indoor air handlers tend to operate very quietly, often at levels significantly lower than traditional window units or ducted systems. In other words, you can get powerful cooling without disruptive noise.
  • Increased home value. Modern, energy-efficient HVAC solutions like ductless mini-splits can be appealing to prospective buyers.

Signs Your Ductless Mini-Split System Needs Repairs

While ductless mini-split systems tend to be reliable, they do occasionally require professional attention to maintain peak performance and efficiency. Recognizing the early warning signs of trouble prevents minor issues from becoming costly repairs. If you notice any of the following problems, reach out to our team at Armstrong Air & Electric so we can diagnose and fix the issue before it escalates.

Your ductless mini-split system likely needs repairs if you encounter any of the following signs of trouble:

  • Weak or no airflow. If an indoor unit is running but only a trickle of air comes out, your system may have a failing fan motor, a refrigerant leak, or a blockage in the filter or coil. We can inspect the unit's components and restore proper airflow.
  • Warm air blowing from the unit. If you set the unit to cool but it blows warm or ambient air, the problem likely stems from a severe refrigerant leak, a malfunctioning compressor, or a faulty control board. We can diagnose the component failure and make the necessary repairs to restore cooling.
  • Strange noises. Squealing, grinding, rattling, or bubbling sounds coming from either the indoor or outdoor unit indicate a mechanical problem. Grinding often signals worn bearings in a motor, while bubbling suggests a refrigerant leak. We can investigate the source of the noise and replace any compromised parts.
  • Foul odors. A musty smell usually signals mold or mildew growth on the indoor coil or drainage pan, often due to clogged condensation lines. A burning or electrical smell is more serious and means a wiring or motor component is overheating. We can thoroughly clean and disinfect the unit or address electrical issues.
  • Water leaking. The indoor unit should not leak water. A leak generally means the condensate drain line is clogged, causing water to back up, or the unit is improperly installed. We can clear the obstruction or fix any drainage issues.
  • Ice on the coil. If you see ice forming on the indoor coil (or the outdoor unit in cooling mode), your system is likely struggling due to low refrigerant levels, a dirty coil restricting heat transfer, or a fan issue. We can determine the root cause of the icing and correct the deficiency.
  • Unexpected increase in utility bills. If your energy costs suddenly spike without a substantial change in usage, your mini-split system is likely working inefficiently. This could be due to a refrigerant leak, compressor failure, or a dirty coil. We can work to restore your system's efficiency.
